Progress for scar-free healing
There are two or three reasons that scar tissue is not quite the same as usual skin - it doesn’t have hair follicles, and it has no fat cells.
Researchers from the University of Pennsylvania and the University of California are able to get wounds to heal with regenerated skin, rather than with scar tissue, with the help of hair follicles. This is due to the fact discovered by the scientists. Forming hair follicles release a factor called Bone Morphogenetic Protein, which helps the growth of skin without scar tissue - in mice and lab-grown human skin cultures, for the moment. "The secret is to regenerate hair follicles first," summarized Dr. Cotsarelis. "After that, the fat will regenerate in response to the signals from those follicles."
